Psalm 126:1-2, 5, “… we were like those who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy… Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy” (NIV).
I recently asked myself, “Why do I keep writing the same
thing over and over again, with different words?”
I think I just figured it out…
One of the most brilliant things about the lectionary is
that it makes connections. So, of
course, Scripture with common themes is brought together. This can make for a beautiful, seamless
narrative or it can be incredibly irritating—God, are you trying to tell me
something… yesterday… today… tomorrow… forever?
“I should spend more
time laughing at myself, I should spend more time laughing…”
It’s a line from one of my favorite songs, and it’s true.
In some ways this is all tangled up with my earlier Ministry
Monday post (here), but I can’t seem to separate them.
Dreams… lead to laughter… leads to joy… mixed with tears…
grow more joy… which produces laughter… And then we dream again…
Sometimes I take life too seriously.
